BC is one of the most generous provinces in Canada. We give our time and money to charity because we care about those less fortunate than ourselves.
And yet, BC has had one of the highest poverty rates in Canada for the last 15 years. There are almost 600,000 people in our province desperately trying to make ends meet and keep their heads above water. It’s clearly time for a different approach.
Many services only provide short-term relief for the downstream symptoms of poverty like hunger but we need long-term solutions that go upstream to fix the root causes of poverty and change the system.
