Vancouver School Board Renews Call for a Poverty Reduction Strategy

On November 9th, the Vancouver School Board (School District No. 39) unanimously approved the following motion:

That the VSB renew and reiterate its request that the BC Government develop and implement a provincial poverty reduction plan.

As the letter they addressed to Premier Christy Clark explains:

The impact of poverty on how students experience school includes, but is not limited to a lack of school readiness, social marginalization, poor health, mental stress and food insecurity. Poverty for our students and families is simply not low income, but includes a complex, extreme and diverse set of compounding layers.
