PRAC’s June monthly meeting was great: not only did we enjoy the amazing sun shining through the windows, but also a clear plan emerged in order to have a summer full of activities and launch the first Poverty Myth Busters poster!
After some reports and updates from PRAC members, we dived into the plans for our Summer Outreach program. Melanie is helping coordinate this, and has already set up a doodle so that we can all share our availability to help at events. Please fill it out so we can see how many events we can attend this summer! As part of this work, we also created a PRAC email list, so that we can stay in touch easily. If you want to join, just visit the link or send us an email and we’ll add you.
We also talked about creating a materials “kit”, which would have some of our leaflets and informational documents, and also some interactive activities or games for people to engage, a poster board with information, maybe some stickers and we could have a table cloth to easily make our table look nicer. We may have to organize a materials- & games-making party soon, so let us know if you’re interested in that!
And on the topic of Summer Outreach, we decided that we want to focus not just on raising awareness and getting people to sign on to our call for a Poverty Reduction Plan for BC, but also to invite them to take part in PRAC activities. So, let’s make sure we do invite everyone to our PRAC meetings and events.
On the Poverty Myth Busters front, we narrowed down our first poster draft, with a lively discussion of how we think the poster can be most effective, what components it could have, and offered feedback so that Omar could re-work the drafts we have so far. Being a PRAC superstar, he already did this! You can see his latest proposals here: draft 1, draft 2 & draft 3.
Finally, we have set an ambitious deadline for the end of July to have our first poster done! PRAC members have already put together some stats & facts, drafts to comment on (see above), and started contacting people to organize our first photo shoot session. If you want to be part of this amazing project, please make sure to attend our next PRAC meeting, which is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30th from 6:30-8:30 PM. More details here.
See you there!
