Op-Ed: Poverty reduction plans work

On October 17, 2013, an Op-Ed written by BCPRC’s Trish Garner and Thelma Obiakor, of the Poverty Reduction Action Committee, was published by the Vancouver Sun newspaper. In this article, Trish and Thelma argue that Poverty Reduction Plans work very well, and urge BC’s government to implement one for this province: “Prior to initiation, Newfoundland shared with B.C. the dubious distinction of having one of the highest poverty rates in the country, but after several years, they have become one of the provinces with the lowest poverty rates in the country, with only 5.3 per cent of the population living in poverty.”
