Vancouver’s Homelessness Count: Preliminary Results

Posted on

Vancouver, April 8th, 2010
The City of Vancouver has released its initial results of March’s homelessness count showing that the number of homeless people in Vancouver is up from 2008, but that there are fewer folks on the street. Vancouver’s support of several new emergency shelters  has obviously made an impact this past winter and brought more people indoors. That’s likely to change though when a number of those shelters lose provincial funding and close their doors on April 30th.

Says Mayor Gregor Robertson:
“There is still a lot of work to be done to create housing. The shelters are working but we urgently need new housing, both interim and permanent, to seriously reduce the number of people who are on the street.”
