Conference Board Gives Canada a Poor Grade on Poverty

The Conference Board of Canada’s annual report card ranks Canada in 15th place out of 17 of the world’s leading developed countries for our increasing poverty rate.  In the overall society category, which measures 17 indicators of social cohesion, equity, and self-sufficiency, Canada ranks 9th.  The Conference Board identifies poverty as the main social challenge that must be addressed in Canada.

The Conference Board of Canada is an independent, not-for-profit applied research organization.  This year’s report card was funded by 24 investors, including Bell Canada, IBM Canada, Scotiabank, TD Bank Financial Group, and Telus Corporation.
