BC Poverty Reduction campaign: Today is Lobby Your MLA Candidates Day

Posted on

Greetings BC Poverty Reduction Open Letter endorsers,

Today is Lobby Your MLA Candidates Day! Please take a few minutes to call all your local candidates (from all the major parties).  Let your MLA candidates know that you have signed the Open Letter for a BC poverty reduction plan, and want to vote for a candidate and a party who will make a commitment to setting poverty reduction targets in BC.

Not sure who your candidates are? The BC Poverty Reduction website has links to the lists of candidates for each of the major political parties. You can find the links here:

Here are some things you can do today:

  • Contact all of your MLA candidates by telephone, email or fax and let them know that you would like to see their parties commit to legislated targets and timelines on poverty reduction;
  • Go to your candidates’ office, on your own or with a delegation, bringing with you the Open Letter for a BC Poverty Reduction plan, and prepared questions (see our Q&A for some ideas);
  • Request meetings with your candidates to discuss the need to reduce poverty in BC; drawing from your local community’s experience with poverty;
  • Let your local media know that you have contacted your candidates about the need for a BC poverty reduction plan;
  • Take pictures of your meetings; post them on facebook or let us know!

Sign the petition for a BC poverty reduction planDon’t forget – keep building the call for a BC poverty reduction plan: encourage your friends, family, neighbours, and co-workers to sign the Open Letter as individual endorsers.
