BC Poverty Reduction campaign update

Hello and thank you for supporting the BC Poverty Reduction initiative.

Momentum is building as we now have 240 organizational endorsers to the Open Letter. And in just a little over a week of the website’s launch, we have over 350 individual signers to the online petition! We encourage you to keep circulating the Open Letter and online petition to your networks to get organizational and individual signers. We also encourage you to keep making this call for a BC poverty reduction plan in your local areas.

With the BC Budget being released today, there will be much discussion in the coming days about policy priorities. As many of you will likely be talking to your local media about your reactions to the budget, this is a great opportunity to talk about poverty reduction in BC and the need for a commitment to introduce targets and timelines to reduce poverty. The BC Poverty Reduction website ( provides many useful resources (including translated versions of the Open Letter in Chinese and Punjabi). We encourage you to write letters to the editor and to call open line radio shows.

More great news – a Facebook group has also been launched by a group of young British Columbians who want to help this call. Here is the You’ll also find a link on the site. Please feel free to circulate this to anyone who might be interested in joining the Facebook group.

Keep us posted about how the campaign is going in your community or share your ideas on how to build the call!

Best regards,

BC Poverty Reduction Committee
